After a genius thought from a friend, I’ve decided to write this blog under the pseudonym ‘the humble sweet potato’.

But where does the name ‘
the humble sweet potato’ come from?

In 2010 I spent 6 months living and travelling around New Zealand, a truly beautiful country. Small yet rich in so many different ways from its varied landscapes and coastline, to the people who live and travel there. Everything about it captivated me.

A few years later I was researching Maori (the indigenous population of New Zealand) proverbs and I came across one that struck such a cord I felt I needed to share it, somehow. This proverb was about the value of humility, making reference to the sweetness of the sweet potato. At the time I had just started to write the
Nourish & Flourish recipe book and it reminded me of the all of the amazing ingredients nature has provided to us. Ingredients which are so incredibly nutritious, amazing in flavour and versatility, and yet very ‘humble’.
